Dogs Deserve Better

                                       Honey

Honey was a sweet little German Shepherd mix puppy... Her and her sister, Dijon, came into a kill shelter after being dumped in a gutter in the middle of nowhere.  We heard of their plight and offered to take them in here before they faced the euth needle.
Sadly, before Honey could make her way to her new life, she passed away for reasons we have not yet been made aware of.  There has been some speculation, but the shelter she died in is states away from us.  We may never know exactly how Honey died.  But her sister Dijon did make it here and has found a new loving forever home.  Honey will live on in our memories, and through her sister's beautiful spirit. She will wait there at the bridge to be reunited with her sister, and to watch over all of the people who helped to save her life.

                                  Edgar

I think Edgar has to be one of the greatest losses of my rescue 'career'...  And I had never even met him.  Edgar, unfortunately, landed himself at LAAS.  Which is Los Angeles Animal Services.  They are a HIGH kill dog pound and they dont really give a rat's patooty about animals.
I pulled Edgar... Because look at him.  How could anybody give up on that beautiful face?  I made the phone calls and I re-confirmed that Edgar was on hold for DDB, TWICE.  They assured me they would take him off the euth list.  I had Robin, one of our DDB reps in that area, go pick him up.  She hurried over immediately arrived only 30 minutes after I had pulled Edgar... When she got to the desk, they told her to go home.  Edgar was dead. He had been put down only minutes before she burst through the doors.
I think that is one of the worst phone calls in relation to the dogs that I have ever recieved... Robin could hardly speak through her tears.  "I am too late!" she cried.. "They killed him, Emily!  They killed him..."  And she sobbed... We tried to save his life.  But LAAS... they are so nasty.  They are cold and nasty and they just dont care... The only kind of people who work there are the kind that WANT to see animals die.  They enjoy it.
Anyways... Edgar was an amazingly handsome German Shepherd.  I think he was a bit older.... But its hard to tell by the picture.  His spirit had been broken, his heart shattered by that terrible place... He had given up.  He had aged years in the couple of weeks he was there.  If only I had known about him 1 hour earlier.. Edgar died on January 8th, 2007 at 1:02pm. They didnt even give him a chance.
Rest in peace, my Edgar boy...

I love you
